Alexandra Esteves

Alexandra Esteves completed her degree in History- Scientific Branch at Universidade do Minho in 2005. In 2011, she took a PhD with the thesis entitled "Between crime and the chain: violence and marginality in Alto Minho (1732-1870)".

Between 2006 and 2011, she held teaching positions at Universidade do Minho . She is currently assistant professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences - Regional Center of Braga, Universidade Católica Portuguesa. She is an integrated researcher at the Laboratory of Landscapes, Heritage and Territory (Lab2PT) of the Institute of Social Sciences of Universidade do Minho. As visiting professor, she taught the discipline of Research Methodology in Contemporary Social History of the PhD in History, at Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (Unisinos), São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul  - Brazil. She guides and coordinates master's and doctoral dissertations and she's also a researcher who's the main investigative focus is on the region of Alto Minho, in the period between the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries, and the particular issues related to health, care, marginalization, violence and prisons, and the history of sociability, tourism and leisure. She has been presented the results of her investigations on conferences, seminars, congresses and colloquia, in Portugal and abroad. She is the author and coordinator of several books and book chapters, as well as dozens of scientific papers published in national and international journals.
